Patchwork & Quilting Classes coming up

Hand Piecing Hexagons:Beginner's Patchwork:I am planning on running a 'Beginner's Patchwork' workshop and 'Hand Piecing Hexagons' workshop in November. Both workshops are a great opportunity to really get engrossed in sewing and spend a lovely uninterrupted day learning how to make something unique and wonderful.

Beginners Patchwork Workshop: We'll be learning how to use a rotary cutter and board, how to cut and measure accurately for patchwork, patchwork design; how to use wadding (batting), edging and how to back your patchwork and how to machine quilt your patchwork together. Time: 9.30 to 4.30. Cost £60 (Bring your own fabrics and sewing machine). Class will be held either in Hertfordshire, Sussex or Chester, depending on demand.

Hand Piecing Hexagons Workshop: A lovely way to quilt if you fancy quilting by hand. No machine necessary; learn how to make these gorgeous little hexagons to make either into a quilt, cushion or bag. Time: 9.30am to 12.30pm. Cost £35 per person. (Bring your own fabrics). Class will be held either in Hertfordshire or Sussex depending on demand.

So near, but yet so far

I only have to make one more project for the crochet book - well at least I think so... But I've spent the last couple of days completely wasting my time making a rattle which is useless, it's so top heavy with bells and stuffing that the head just wobbles off - so that's a reject.

Then I thought I'd make a bib with a heart on the top using a cotton, but the intarsia just looks rubbish using cotton, it just doesn't merge together well and looks more like something you'd get in a jumble sale (do they still have those?).

So I'm rejecting them both and now have to think of another accessory that would work well in the book.

The end is in sight. Perhaps I should just do some gardening tomorrow and take a bit of a rest - the creativity might come to me when I'm digging.

Here are a few little tasters from the new Baby Crochet book I'm writing. I've been experimenting with new stitches, brightly coloured buttons and pom poms:Really cute little cuffs:

and turning an old favourite into an exciting jumper:

New Variety

I bought back some heirloom seeds from the US in the Spring and planted this squash with the crinkly skin. This is last nights fresh picks from the garden and though makes a strange picture, tasted delicious with a little olive oil, seasoning and served with a spoonful of houmous.

My wonderful weekend

I just took a break for a long weekend and had such a great time. Here are some pics from my very rare visit to North of Watford. I'm such a sheltered Southern girl and I had no idea what was in front of my nose. I visited some wonderful friends in Stokesley, North Yorkshire and taught one of their guests to crochet: I was treated to the most fantastic food and reconnected with some special company:

I dug myself deep into the sand on a beach in Saltburn by Sea: Saw the prettiest beach huts ever:

Saw some gorgeous colours and crisp horizons and ate chocolate ice cream:

Fell in love with the donkeys on the beach:

Then I left to visit Andy just outside Chester for an evening of delicious pasta and homegrown tomatoes from his patio and the next morning to meet with Johnny at Laughing Hens. We spent lots of time talking fabrics, wool and choosing colours for the new Rooster seaside range.

It was a real treat.

Book projects so far

Here are a little collection of baby stuff for the new crochet baby book. All coming on quite well. The big blankets aren't ready yet, but there are some really pretty ones emerging. I'm trying to get the garments made first and concentrate on the smaller projects later - gives me less time to panic over the deadlines later on.
