Back in the room

Just got back from a wonderful 10 days of tango dancing in South Devon.

So all a bit quiet recently on the craft front, but I'm now back and busy writing my two columns for 'Homemaker' and 'Inside Crochet' magazines and getting ready to launch my new Knit Club. If you're interested in joining please email me and I will send you details as soon as we're ready to launch. nicki@nickitrench.com

Have you also seen that I'm going with a tour to Iceland in October to teach Fair isle knitting? This is a fantastic break away and a great opportunity to discover the textile trends in Iceland, and have a lovely holiday too of course.  Check this link to find out details if you're interested in joining me. I'll also be teaching on another tour in the Spring to the Shetland Islands.

Anyone for Strawberries?

This week I've been knitting and crocheting like mad. I've finished two projects, one is for our August's Crochet Club project - a seasonal bowl of strawberries! For this project I'll be giving a step by step guide on how to bead and make this lovely strawberries. The pattern comes with lots of photographs and charts with step by step instructions.

I've also just finished a project for my column in Homemaker magazine. It's for the September issue (out in August) and the theme is Back to School. For this I've made a colouring pencil knitted roll. I really love this. I've made it using a Swiss Check stitch and found some really pretty fabric and made little pockets where you can keep colouring pencils.

I use colouring pencils a lot when I'm designing and I'm definitely keeping them in here from now on. They usually get left all over the house and I'm always losing them - not anymore!
(excuse bad quality photos - have sent this off to Homemaker now for their photography and my photos are not too good)

Knitting Club

Am thinking of starting a Knitting Club. Along the same lines as the Crochet Club which has proved really popular. Just doing some research for ideas and came across these. I love the simplicity and the colours. Got me thinking of some good ideas for the first few projects. Let me know if you're interested and I'll send through some more info soon.

Today's Projects

Besides going to the vet with Poppy to look at her stitches following the removal of her tumour, it's been a crochet/knitting day today.

I received my copy of Fairisle & Nordic Knits, a book I wrote a few months ago now and had almost forgotten about. It's my favourite knitting book that I've done so far. I love Fairisle and this one was a lot of fun to design. I particularly love the yoked jumpers and the Vintage Cardigan in here. It'll be in the shops next week and I'll also be selling it from my website.

I was also invited as a guest to visit Jane's Crochet Group in Lewes. It was amazing to see just how much her students have achieved. A really great group and I like to think there's a group like this in every town!

So now it's time for me to sit and finish my project for the Crochet Club. This is a summer project for July and I want to make a Beach Bag, so I've chosen a Long Wave Stitch, which I thought appropriate for that time of year. Am really enjoying the bright colours and I'm using Debbie Bliss Rialto DK. Here is a photo of it in progress. Next.... finding the right fabric for the lining! Suggestions would be good...

Next Crochet Club project

Just finished my May Crochet Club project...

If you’re like me, you love to drag a cushion out in the garden when the weather is good. But not just any old cushion! This gorgeous cushion uses just simple traditional granny squares and I’ve tried to use some bright vintage colours framed by the black outline. I love seeing old blankets like this, so I’ve replicated it by using a beautiful contemporary soft yarn in a cushion instead. The yarn used is Debbie Bliss’s Rialto DK and Rooster Almerino DK, which I have chosen for the shades I like. This will be released at the beginning of May for my Crochet Club members.

Photo Shoot at my house yesterday

Yesterday my house was used as a location for Rooster Yarns who are bringing out a new collection of knitting patterns. I'm acting as Creative Director on this project which is really interesting and we're at the stage now where the photos will be put into a page layout and then got ready for print. The book is due out on the 1st May. The photographer for this project is David Merewether who has done a brilliant job and Camilla Perkins is the stylist. More pics later to show you of the garments, which were designed by Sian Brown

I thought I'd just show you a few pics that came in yesterday...
