Next Crochet Club project

Just finished my May Crochet Club project...

If you’re like me, you love to drag a cushion out in the garden when the weather is good. But not just any old cushion! This gorgeous cushion uses just simple traditional granny squares and I’ve tried to use some bright vintage colours framed by the black outline. I love seeing old blankets like this, so I’ve replicated it by using a beautiful contemporary soft yarn in a cushion instead. The yarn used is Debbie Bliss’s Rialto DK and Rooster Almerino DK, which I have chosen for the shades I like. This will be released at the beginning of May for my Crochet Club members.

Photo Shoot at my house yesterday

Yesterday my house was used as a location for Rooster Yarns who are bringing out a new collection of knitting patterns. I'm acting as Creative Director on this project which is really interesting and we're at the stage now where the photos will be put into a page layout and then got ready for print. The book is due out on the 1st May. The photographer for this project is David Merewether who has done a brilliant job and Camilla Perkins is the stylist. More pics later to show you of the garments, which were designed by Sian Brown

I thought I'd just show you a few pics that came in yesterday...

Blanket for Simply Crochet Magazine

I've been working on this blanket for ages. I've had to do it in between the working on my new book for Cico and I've had very little time, but yesterday I finished it! Just need to work out if it needs blocking and pressing or not...

It will be in Simply Crochet Magazine in the next couple of months:

Inspired by vintage colours

I had a lovely day shopping for vintage clothes and dresses yesterday in Brighton with my daughter. We had such a lovely time. I bought two new dresses! A rare occurrence!

I'm often asked in interviews what inspires me and I find it hard to answer. But just walking through the streets of somewhere like Brighton or London is inspirational.

Look at these two colours together, I found them on a rail outside a vintage shop in Sydney Street. They work perfectly - light blue and pale orange - I'm definitely using that colour combination for my next design!

My two new dresses! Excited. The yellow one was irresistible, I love the colour. It's from Cos and a really good practical everyday dress. The other one was from a shop in the Laines somewhere in Brighton, I'm afraid I have no idea of what it's called! Can't wait to wear them.

Crochet Club

I've had a few queries about whether you can join the Crochet Club if you live outside of the UK. The answer is a big fat YES. Of course. I will send the patterns by email, so that is fine. The only thing that isn't possible are the offers on any yarns or free offers that come up, as it would be too expensive to post. But the patterns are still available and of course all the advice or support you need that comes with it. So please go ahead and join, we'd love to have some overseas members in our Club.

New Contact Details

I've just created an App. It's a really great way of giving all my contact details, details of my workshops, books and news. If you send this link to your phone and then open it up on your home screen you can scroll through and see everything. It works best on a phone rather than the web as it's designed for a smart phone. Chocolate Roses

Here are some chocolate roses I made with my friend Besh the other night. These are for her friend's 40th birthday cake. She's going to cover the cake in an ganache and then pour white chocolate over the top and decorate with these roses. It's going to look gorgeous.

Did you know that I run workshops on how to make these roses? I usually teach how to make them using sugarpaste, but you can also make them with this modelling chocolate. The roses workshop also covers how to sugarpaste/fondant ice your cake. It really is a great skill and a lot of fun.

Can't wait to see the final cake - will post up a photo when she's finished. Perhaps I'll also give instructions on how to do it, or make an app!

Radio 4 - You & Yours: Baby Blankets

Had very brief but fun morning when I had to go to the BBC studio in Brighton to record a comment about baby blankets for You & Yours for Radio 4. Have a listen again, if you get the chance.

Of course you'll all have to find a new baby so you can make a baby blanket now! See my most recent design in Simply Crochet, or if you don't crochet, come along to one of my crochet or knitting courses to learn how to make one!

More of some my previous blanket designs:

Not a blanket design, but couldn't resist this one - don't you think the Royal baby would look cute in this? (from Cute & Easy Crochet Baby Clothes)
